An often-overlooked but critical aspect of oven design is the management of evaporated vapors. As moisture or solvents leave a sample, they turn into gas. If trapped inside the chamber, they can re-condense on cooler surfaces, re-contaminate samples, or create a hazardous atmosphere.
Ovens are designed with vent ports, usually adjustable, to allow these vapors to escape. In some setups, these vents are connected to laboratory exhaust systems (fume hood ducts) to safely remove toxic or flammable vapors from the lab space. Proper venting is essential for both the effectiveness of the drying process and for laboratory safety, preventing the buildup of potentially explosive or harmful concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
