Introduction about laboratory water purification system

Deionization (DI) plays a critical role in achieving high-purity water, particularly for applications requiring low ionic content. DI systems use ion-exchange resins—either mixed-bed or separate cation and anion beds—to remove dissolved ionic contaminants. This process significantly increases the water’s electrical resistivity, a key metric of ionic purity. DI cartridges are often employed as a polishing step after reverse osmosis. While effective, these resins require periodic regeneration or replacement. For many labs, DI is the cornerstone technology for producing Type II water and is a necessary precursor to producing Type I ultrapure water.
